The Diners Club® World’s 50 Best Restaurant Academy announced their list of Latin America’s 50 best restaurants. Good news for all foodies living in Buenos Aires or planning to travel to Buenos Aires, because 10 of them are located right here in BA!
Tarquino was awarded with the 48th place. It’s a restaurant by chef Dante Liporace. It offers a top-to-tail beef tasting menu. According to the academy, the standout dish was the beef tartare with cured meat.
The 45th place was awarded to Don Julio, a traditional steakhouse, offering diners that show what the Argentine asado is all about. Chef Pepe Sotelo cooks the beef on a traditional iron grill. It is located in a building that dates back to the 19th century. The dish that stands out the most is the offal with Portobello mushrooms and grilled red onions.
Restó was awarded with the 43th place. It is a restaurant located on the ground floor of the Central Architect Society building. It stands out through their distinguished flavour combinations. The dish that stands out the most is the Quail stuffed with borage leaves and apple cream.
The 39th place was given to Oviedo. Here, chef Ramón Chiliguay prepares fish and seafood dished and gives them a Mediterranean and Spanish twist. The standout dish is the South Atlantic hake with Chubut mussels.
In the 37th place there is restaurant Elena. Chef Juan Gaffuri serves Argentinian food with a modern European twist. The standout dish is the 45-day dry-aged beef T-bone.
Aramburu, a restaurant serving Modern Argentinian food, was awarded with the 28th place. Chef Juan Pedro Piergentili runs the kitchen. It is a very intimate restaurant, offering only 16 seats at a time. The dish the stands out the most is the black hake with cauliflower purée, salicornias and wakame salad.
The 21th place was given to Chila, a restaurant that overlooks the docks of Puerto Madero. Chef Soledad Nardelli is inspired by seasonal and local ingredients, which can be found across the diverse landscape of Argentina. The standout dish is the black Antarctic hake with seaweed and salicornia.
La Cabrera has been awarded with the 19th place. It is a traditional Argentina grill restaurant, serving big cuts of beef with a ton of side dishes. The dish that stands out the most is the sweetbreads. Gastón Riveira runs the kitchen.
The 15th place was awarded to El Baqueano, a restaurant serving alternative native meats, as llama and alligator. The standout dish is the fake ‘bife de chorizo’ made with Pacu river fish.
Last, but definitely not least, Tegui comes in the 7th place. Not that surprising, as German Martitegui, one the co-hosts of Argentina’s MasterChef, runs the kitchen in this restaurant. The dish that stands out the most is the Argentine tenderloin, chimichurri, charcoal-grilled potatoes, egg and farofa.
