Argentina takes 9 spots in the Latin America’s 50 best restaurants list of 2016
Argentina is a beautiful country that boasts great culinary expertise. In fact, there is a list that ranks the 50 best restaurants in Latin America, and Argentine restaurants occupy 9 spots on this prestigious list.
This list is released on an annual basis, and Argentina truly proved itself this year in the gastronomy scene as many of its restaurants made the ranking, and one even made it to the top ten of the list. The list is made by a jury of independent food experts, writers and connoisseurs.
Restaurants like Don Julio, La Cabrera and Four Seasons Elena are some of the best restaurants in Buenos Aires. These types of restaurants are typical Argentine restaurants because they offer a menu with all kinds of quality steaks and other kinds of meat.
This type of restaurant is called a parilla; there are many parillas in the trendy neighbourhood of Palermo. One example of a well-known parilla is Don Julio.
Don Julio is located on the cross streets of Gurruchaga and Guatemala. Last year, Don Julio took 21st place, whereas the previous year it placed 45th.
La Cabrera is another popular place in Palermo due to its magnificent beef sirloin steaks. However, this restaurant placed 33rd on the list this year, a 14 place decrease from the previous year´s list.
The Four Seasons Elena restaurant placed 31st due to its excellent dry aged beef cuts and its talented chef, Juan Gaffuri.
Additionally, Tegui is the new Argentine pride because it scored 9th on the list! Sophistication and innovation were the key words that determined this score, along with their chef German Martitegui.
At 50th place is Pura Tierra, which has made a comeback with their pure use of local ingredients by their chef Martin Molteni. A restaurant called Chila took 35th place, recognized for having the only Argentine woman who exhibits a great passion for culinary creativity.
Furthermore, Aramburu took 26th place because of its 12 course dinner, and 1884, a place in the wine region of Mendoza and led by Chef Francis Mallman, also appeared on the list.
