Bill Passed in Buenos Aires Prevents Agrochemical Use in the City
A bill was recently passed in the city of Buenos Aires that prevents agrochemical use in the city. The bill received extensive support for a variety of political groups in Buenos Aires.
Specifically, the law now prohibits the use of synthetic herbicides on public and private land throughout Buenos Aires.
An official of the Partido Socialista Auténtico (PSA), Adrián Camps, is the government leader who promoted and supported this bill.
Camps was especially adamant about the problem of chemical use along railroad tracks and other locations. Although the chemicals were used with good intent to prevent weeds from growing, they are toxic to the people who live close to these areas.
He says of this problem, ´´This was particularly serious in areas where the rail tracks are next to the streets, such as in the neighborhood of Belgrano, where there are photos of fumigation and people passing by with baby pushchairs.´´
Furthermore, Camps asserts that this bill is a good stepping stone to be in line with the rest of the world as it realizes the dangers of chemical use.
Now that the bill has been passed, the land and the people will be more protected from these toxic chemicals.
