“Mafalda in your soup", that is the name of a new exhibition at the National Library in Buenos Aires. It will start Wednesday 17 September to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the cartoon character. The exposition shows sketches that Mafalda’s creator Quino (real name: Joaquín Salvador Lavado) made of her, and also books, translations and photographs. Even 50 years after her creation she is still a popular character.
Mafalda is a comic strip featuring a 6 year old girl. She reflects the Argentinian middle class and progressive youth concerned about humanity and world peace. The strip ran from 1964 to 1973 and was loved in Latin America, Europe and Asia.
Also, starting 18 September there will be an exhibition called ‘The World According to Mafalda’. It tries to show different aspects of everyday life in Argentina. (free admission)
