If you are a film lover and you want to travel to Argentina, April is the month to come. The Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Film, or BAFICI, is eleven days full of films and fun, taking place from April 2-13. The Buenos Aires Culture Department began BAFICI in 1999, making this year the 16th year. Over 300,000 filmgoers participate in the watching of more than 400 film screenings.

Argentina, along with Cuba, Mexico, and Brazil, is one of the leaders of South America cinema. 2014 holds even more Argentine world premieres than last year, both in national and international competition. Two of the most popular are: Hernan Roseselli´s “Mauro” and Juan Martin Hsu´s “La Salada”.
In honor of the World Cup this year, BAFICI will re-launch a sports cinema section called Sportivo BAFICI. The titles range from, “Fat City” by John Huston with a classic boxing story to “The Armstrong Lie” documentary by Alex Gibney.

Many different thematic categories will be present at this year´s festival, including: Places, People and Personalities, Nocturnal, Music, Modern Classics, Trajectories, The Land Trembles, and Dialogues. Awards will be given to the Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Script.

Over the past five years, participation in this event has increased greatly and the tickets sell out quick. It is best to buy tickets online in advance. In order to plan well, you may want to check out the schedule of films online or purchase the official catalog for all the details on the films. Do not miss out on this opportunity in Buenos Aires to experience one of the greatest Film Festivals in the world.
