Buenos Aires to allow food trucks in neighborhoods
Until now, food trucks have only been allowed in Buenos Aires to work at private events. Now, the city has announced that starting February, the food selling vehicles can operate in the following neighborhoods of Buenos Aires: Parque Patricios, Caballito and Recoleta.
Throughout the upcoming months the parks Chacabuco, Avellaneda (Parque Avellaneda), Sarmiento (Saavedra) and Los Andes (Chacarita) plus the Mafalda Square (Colegiales) will be conquered by the food vending trucks.
Spots for the trucks will be limited and strict rules have been applied when picking the locations (for example a truck can’t be located closer than 200 meters from any restaurant or other commercial location that sells food or drinks). According to the Buenos Aires Ministry of Environment and Public Space, applicants for the available spaces in the city will be distributed to a specific location by a lottery.
Passing this new law, the city of Buenos Aires hopes to make its streets livelier and to improve employment and consumer activity.
