Video games to be Included in Buenos Aires’ Biggest Sporting Event

Buenos Aires’ largest sporting event will now be including video games. The event, called Juegos Bonaerenses, is considered the Olympics of the Buenos Aires province and already includes more than 64 sporting events.

With the inclusion of video games, this number only gets bigger as people are very excited about this brand new addition to the event.

Now, participants in the Juegos Bonaerenses can play the games League of Legends and FIFA 17 during the tournament. These games, which are also extremely popular, will be available for PC as well as PlayStation 3 and 4. (more…)

Buenos Aires Artist Creates New Kind of Street Art

Buenos Aires artist, Sebastian Andreatta, has created an innovative new kind of street art that is popping up all over the city. Andreatta´s work, dubbed the BiH project, is a series of fake traffic signs that contain witty, yet profound social commentary.

While his art is known for its biting humor, Andreatta wants people to know that it just supposed to be funny. As he puts it, “just because it makes you laugh doesn’t mean that it’s not serious.”

Futhermore, Andreatta got the idea for his street art from a very heavy visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina last year. (more…)

President Argentina Meets Dutch Royalty

The president Argentina, Mauricio Macri, met the Dutch royalty for the first time, after landing in the Netherlands on Saturday. Macri and his wife, First Lady Juliana Awada, passed time with King Willem-Alexander and and Queen Máxima over the weekend.

Macri explored the Wassenaar Forest by bike and he and his wife spent time at the King and Queen´s country estate with the Dutch royal family.

This week, the couple has plans to visit the port of Rotterdam and see a ballet at The Hague theater.

Buenos Aires Makes List of Cities with High Quality of Life

Buenos Aires has made a list of cities with a high quality of life. This list was published by the Mercer consulting firm and calculates city rankings based on factors like education, public transportation, and governmental stability, among others.

This list is published to assist businesses in figuring out suitable compensation and premiums in accordance with the reality of life in each city.

The official ranking of the Argentine capital was 93rd out of 231, but the city came in third for all of Latin America. (more…)

Famous Neighborhood Landmark Undergoes Restorations

A famous landmark in the Chacarita neighborhood of Buenos Aires is undergoing major restorations. The Comastri, a glass observatory, is an old relic of the colorful past of the neighborhood, built in 1875.

First, the Comastri operated as a private home, then as a cultural center, and most recently as a school for children with disabilities. In 2014, the site was declared a historical landmark.

Now, the Comastri will reopen once again as a cultural center in Buenos Aires.

Argentine Scientists Discover Glowing Frog

Scientists in Argentina have discovered the first species of glowing frogs in the world in the Amazon Basin. The scientists came from a museum of natural science in Buenos Aires that was studying the pigment of this particular frog species.

In fact, they stumbled upon this amazing discovery purely by accident.

While these scientists were examining the pigment of the frog , they found that the frog appears fluorescent under a UV light. They went on to uncover that the frog used emissions from the lymph nodes and other glands on its body in order give the skin its greenish glow. (more…)

Universities in Argentina Introduce Gluten Free Beer

Three universities in Argentina (Entre Ríos) teamed up to introduce a new gluten free beer made from rice. The beer is not officially on the market, but has received good reviews from various beer experts.

According to Claudia Liberman of the Program of Bettering Genetic Rice, the beer doesn´t taste much different from any normal beer. In addition, this beer can also take on a variety of different flavors.

Animals Permitted on Subway Buenos Aires

Animals are now permitted to travel with their owners on the subway in Buenos Aires, according to a law passed last November.

However, there are some limitations to this new Argentine law.

First, pets must be kept in some sort of carrier. Pets also must ride with their owners in a designated carriage away from other passengers.

Moreover, pet owners are expected to carry proof of a rabies vaccination for their pets to travel legally on the subway. Animals are also barred from escalators or being fed during their subway ride. (more…)

Super Bowl Ad Filmed in Buenos Aires

Nintendo filmed their latest Super Bowl ad in Buenos Aires. The ad aired during Super Bowl LI on February 5th.

In the ad, Nintendo announced their new product, the Nintendo Switch. The Switch can be played on a TV or taken on the go in a portable console.

Additionally, the Switch allows up to 8 players at a time on the same console.

The ad was shot at the UBA´s School of Exact Sciences and features actors playing the game (more…)
