Estela de Carlotto has been named an Outstanding Citizen by The Latin American Association for Integration (ALADI). Estela de Carlotto is the President of the organization Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, a human rights organization with the aim to find children who disappeared during the dictatorship of Argentina from 1976 to 1986. During this dictatorship around 500 pregnant women were kidnapped and enforced to give birth in detention.
Last week Carlotto received the title in Montevideo, Uruguay. A title ´in recognition of her tireless work to promote and respect human rights, as well as her permanent fight for Memory, Truth, and Justice´.
Carlotto said in her acceptance speech that for her it was a logical thing to do, one of her statements was; ´what mother wouldn’t look for her daughter when she doesn’t return?´.
Carlotto´s own grandson was found on the 5th of August this year. Although she found him she would continue searching for the hundreds of grandchildren who have not yet been identified.
