The Buenos Aires Obelisk, one of Buenos Aires most popular symbols, appeared without its top last weekend. A lot of people were flabbergasted and speculating about it on social media. Although most of them thought thought the top was cut off, it is not. It is all an optical illusion. The top is covered with mirrors so as it seems that the top is not there. A fake top was placed in front of the Museum of Latin-American Art in Buenos Aires (MALBA).
It is a part of an art project by Leandro Erlich. The work is called “La democracia del símbolo”. The message Erlich wants to communicate is that there are still things in life to be discovered and to be invented.
