Sunday 16 November, the Argentine government organized a marathon to push Britain into a discussion about the Falkland Islands. Thousands of people participated to show their will for a dialogue.
The Falkland Islands have belonged to Great Britain since the early 19th century, but Argentina disputes the British control. Argentina believes that the islands belong to them, even though the residents of the Falklands islands voted to stay British in 2013.
On the 2nd of April 1982, thousands of Argentine troops invaded the Falkland Islands which ended with a complete surrender of Argentine forces. Due to this fight nearly 1,000 people died. On 10 December 1983, after the surrender of Argentine forces, a new period started with a democratically elected government ruled by President Ricardo Alfonsin.
