It’s that time of the year again. Classic bebop, nuevo tango, jazz fusion and swing. The International Jazz Festival in Buenos Aires is celebrated over the next days. The festival has been celebrated every year since 2008 and is host to international talent as well as local artists.

On Tuesday 10 November the BA International Jazz Festival kicked off in Usina del Arte with the Peter Bernstein Quartat.

Boca Juniors win their 25th Argentine soccer league title

On Sunday 1 November, the Boca Juniors won their 25th Argentine soccer league title when they won with 1-0 against Tigre. The match was played at La Bombonera, home of the Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires.

The team, coached by Rodolfo Arruabarrena, needed a win to secure the soccer title without having to depend on other results. In the 42nd minute, defender Fabian Monzon scored the winning goal with a header from a corner. (more…)

Bollatage: Macri vs Scioli

On 25 October Argentina went to vote for their new president. Opinion polls suggested that Scioli would win the first round, but after a surprisingly strong performance by Macri, the people of Argentina have to vote again on the 22nd of November.

Scioli ended up with 36,86% of all the votes, while Macri ended up with 34,33% of the votes. To win the presidency in the first round, a person should have 45% of the votes or between 40% and 45% and a 10% lead over the nearest rival. (more…)

Subway line H gets improved

Subway line H, the yellow line, is together with line C one of the two transversal lines in the city. Both lines connect lines A, B and E with each other. Currently, it runs all the way from Corrientes to Hospitales.

The line has been given three new stations. Two are being opened half December 2015 on Las Heras and Córdoba. The other one is being opened in April 2016 on Santa Fe and will connect line H with line D. The new connection with the D line should also make the C line less crowded. (more…)

10 of Latin America’s 50 best restaurants are located in Buenos Aires

The Diners Club® World’s 50 Best Restaurant Academy announced their list of Latin America’s 50 best restaurants. Good news for all foodies living in Buenos Aires or planning to travel to Buenos Aires, because 10 of them are located right here in BA!

Tarquino was awarded with the 48th place. It’s a restaurant by chef Dante Liporace. It offers a top-to-tail beef tasting menu. According to the academy, the standout dish was the beef tartare with cured meat.

Argentina’s Movie The Clan on the shortlist for the Oscars

Argentina’s Movie The Clan (originally El Clan) has been chosen to represent Argentina in the category of foreign-language movies at the Oscars. This does not come as a surprise, as it broke records during the first weeks of its premier. With almost 2,5 million tickets sold, the movie turned into the second most grossing Argentine movie all time. The most grossing Argentine movie still is Wild Tales from director Damián Szifrón.

What happened to the top of the obelisk?

The Buenos Aires Obelisk, one of Buenos Aires most popular symbols, appeared without its top last weekend. A lot of people were flabbergasted and speculating about it on social media. Although most of them thought thought the top was cut off, it is not. It is all an optical illusion. The top is covered with mirrors so as it seems that the top is not there. A fake top was placed in front of the Museum of Latin-American Art in Buenos Aires (MALBA).

University of Buenos Aires ranked as best university of Latin-America

The University of Buenos Aires, or UBA, is ranked the best university of Latin-America. The study was done worldwide and included 891 universities. Out of these 891 universities, UBA was ranked 124th. UBA ended up better than last year, when it was ranked 198tb worldwide.

The university of Buenos Aires is the largest university in Argentina. UBA consist out of 13 departments, 10 museums and 6 hospitals. It is a public university and therefor open and free for everyone (including foreigners). (more…)

The Buenos Aires Food Week 2015

The Buenos Aires Food Week started 15 September. During this event Buenos Aires’ best restaurants will serve lunch and/or dinner at a promotional price.

The Buenos Aires Food Week lasts 2 weeks and will be held from 15 September to 28 September. Approximately 40 restaurants, spread out through the city, participate in this event. If you want to know exactly what restaurants participate, check out the website: www.bafoodweek.com.
