Government of Argentina Announces Cabinet Changes

After the resignation of the Chief of Intelligence, Héctor Icazuriaga, Public Communications Secretary Alfredo Scoccimarro has announced changes in the cabinet.

Icazuriaga will be replaced by Oscar Parrili while Senator Aníbal Fernandez will occupy  Parrilli´s role secretary general for the presidency.

The changes in the Cabinet are called “a desperate” response to legal complications by opposition parties.

A new monument in Buenos Aires of Ana Frank

The new monument of Ana Frank was made by the Dutch artist, Jet schepper and is a replica of the monument in Amsterdam. The monument will be placed on Wednesday 10 December in Puerto Madero.

The location of the monument will be on the Dutch Queen Square in Puerto Madero, facing the Puente de la mujer. The monument will be placed in commemoration of “International Human Rights Day”.

The opening will take place on Wednesday and the ceremony will be attended by the Dutch Embassy, the Centre Anne Frank, the vice president of the Legislature, Minister of Culture of Buenos Aires (more…)

Jorge Zorreguieta, father of Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, did not pass away. Last week several media sources reported his death. Queen Maxima flew to Argentina rather suddenly to visit her father. The news of his passing away was rectified quickly. The Fundaleu hospital were Zorreguieta was being treated confirms he is alive. He is back home, in a stable condition and has even been spotted while attending a polo match in Buenos Aires.

After 26 days of absence President Cristina Fernández made her first public appearance. She made her comeback during the annual convention of the Argentine Chamber of Construction in Buenos Aires.

During President Fernández’ 40-minute speech she discharged the changes on the income tax before the end of the year, by saying: “How can we finance public works if we don’t collect taxes?” She continued by saying that Argentine workers are still the best paid in the whole of Latin America. During the global launch of the Dakar rally in Paris was revealed that the race of 2015 will start and finish in Buenos Aires. It takes off on January the 3th.

Etienne Lavigne, general director of the race said: “This time will be a very special Dakar, with a lot of variety and new things in an area that we know very well”. It is not the first time that the race starts in Buenos Aires; it already passed the capital of Argentina in 2009. The Dakar Rally is an event that really puts Argentina in the spotlight. Sunday 16 November, the Argentine government organized a marathon to push Britain into a discussion about the Falkland Islands. Thousands of people participated to show their will for a dialogue.

The Falkland Islands have belonged to Great Britain since the early 19th century, but Argentina disputes the British control. Argentina believes that the islands belong to them, even though the residents of the Falklands islands voted to stay British in 2013.

Last week we informed you that the President of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is suffering from an infectious fever. Now Jorge Capitanich, the cabinet chief, said that the President is slowly returning to work. Although she is still staying at the presidential residence in Olivos, Ms. Kirchner discussed the main topics on the government’s agenda with other officials.
