“Mafalda in your soup", that is the name of a new exhibition at the National Library in Buenos Aires. It will start Wednesday 17 September to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the cartoon character. The exposition shows sketches that Mafalda’s creator Quino (real name: Joaquín Salvador Lavado) made of her, and also books, translations and photographs. Even 50 years after her creation she is still a popular character.
Mafalda is a comic strip featuring a 6 year old girl. She reflects the Argentinian middle class and progressive youth concerned about humanity and world peace. (more…)
From 11 till 17 September Buenos Aires gets to enjoy The German Film Festival. It is the 14th consecutive edition of the event, with a record number of films this year.
For a country that produces about 150 films a year (similar to Argentina), the selection of 18 feature films allows a good first impression of what German cinema currently is. The comedy “Fack ju Göhte” is one of the films shown. In Germany this movie was the only one attracting an audience of more than 5 million people in 2013. Sunday, September 7th, Buenos Aires got to enjoy a new edition of the half marathon. This edition of the 21 kilometers turned out to be the most visited in history with 20,216 participants. 68% of them male and 32% female. Of all runners 2,600 were foreigners from 45 different countries.
The race started at 7.30 a.m. from Figueroa Alcorta and Monroe. 1 hour, 3 minutes and 48 seconds later the first contestant finished. Buenos Aires could be replaced as the capital of Argentina by a city 600 miles north. Cristina Kirchner, President of Buenos Aires, is considering moving the capital to Santiago del Estero. The current capital is considered geographically remote from much of the rest of the country. Santiago del Estero, founded 455 years ago, is the oldest city and is located in the center of the country.
Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, an Argentinean writer and statesman, came up with the idea of moving the capital in the 1850s. He suggested installing government in Martin Garcia (more…)
The forthcoming film ´Zero Theorem´ of screenwriter Terry Gilliam, allegedly violates copyrights. Three street artists in Buenos Aires that made a big graffiti mural, called Castillo, have filed a lawsuit. The movie is about a computer hacker in search of meaning starring Matt Damon and Christoph Waltz.
Castillo was finished on December 2010 and was registered with the Copyright Office in 2013. It is a well-known and important piece of artwork in the streets of Buenos Aires. It is also one of the few graffiti’s that has survived (more…)

It is the fourth edition of this event which gives great discounts at leading restaurants in Buenos Aires. 41 high quality restaurants participate in this event, which allows people to eat high quality food at affordable prices.
The director of the Buenos Aires Food Week states that the objective of the event is to provide access to the haute cuisine of Buenos Aires, so that people can experience good food at accessible prices.

He was a frustrated musician and a lover of Buenos Aires. But above all, he was one of the great writers of the twentieth century. Today, august 26th he would have turned 100. In 2014 not only the centenary of his birth is celebrated, but also the 30th anniversary of his death and the 50th birthday of the emergence of Hopscotch (original title Rayuela), the novel that marked an important milestone in the history of Hispanic literature.

Born on the 24th of august in 1899 in Buenos Aires Jorge Luis Borges became one of the most unique literary figures of the twentieth century.
He was the master of the short story. Borges wrote tales of Argentina’s criminal underground and created fictional worlds that captured his wonder with the concept of infinitude. In his poems he writes about the unique culture and traditions of Buenos Aires, where he lived until his death in 1986.

Three young men who illegally decorated subways in Buenos Aires with their graffiti have participated in a cleaning operation. The goal of this action was to promote awareness to protect public transport and at the same time discourage vandalism.
The actions follow upon two previous cases. In June two adults and a juvenile were arrested. They were caught with aerosols violating access to a subway station. Also in May a young man who spray painted a car did volunteer work to repair the damage. (more…)
