The restrictions on books that enter Argentina from abroad have been lifted. This means that from now on, people in Argentina you are able to receive books that you order online.
Before today, if you tried to buy a book online from abroad, you not only had to wait several days for it to arrive, you also had to go to Customs or to Ezeiza.
Guillermo Moreno, secretary of Domestic Trade, introduced the restrictions in 2012. It was meant introduced as an environmental measure, preventing product with ink containing lead content from entering Argentina.
The resolution was published around the time of the CEPO (restrictions on buying dollars) and the current government claims that it was a consequence of introducing the cepo, to prevent dollars from leaving the country.
Culture Minister Pablo Avelluto claims that the countries, from which Argentina imports books, do not use lead in their publications.
From now on, you Argentines can buy books online in (foreign) webshops and they will be delivered right to your door – in Argentina- without any problems.
