The Pool party finalizes around 23.00h; and the after party already starts at 21.00 at Manchester Pub, an English pub in Palermo (Calle Honduras 5265, bus 39). During all weekends in February you will find Corsos, street parades and Murgas: group of dancers and drummers crossing the streets during the evening in the different neighborhoods of Buenos Aires. The parades start at 19:00 in the evening and lasts till 02:00, at Sundays it will end at midnight.

The restrictions on books that enter Argentina from abroad have been lifted. This means that from now on, people in Argentina you are able to receive books that you order online.

Before today, if you tried to buy a book online from abroad, you not only had to wait several days for it to arrive, you also had to go to Customs or to Ezeiza.

Guillermo Moreno, secretary of Domestic Trade, introduced the restrictions in 2012. (more…)

Subway station Retiro will close for January

The Retiro subway station will remain closed for almost all of January. Retiro station is on of the end stations of the C line. SBASE (the company Buenos Aires Subways) released an official statement saying that the subway will close for maintenance set to restore and improve aspects of the station. The maintenance will begin on 4 January and the services are scheduled to return to normal on 31 January.

Retiro station is an important subway station and is used by over 37,000 people daily. (more…)

The Argentine currency control, otherwise known as cepo, is on of the many regulations introduced by former president Christina Fernández de Kirchner. The cepo exists out of import and export rules and currency controls designed to protect the foreign currency reserves of the Central Bank.

In his campaign, president Mauricio Macri promised to get rid of the currency controls, which would result in the blue dollar rate disappearing.

Since the 1st of December, you can discover Teatro Colón through Google Street View. The theatre will be part of a special collection of places in Buenos Aires with a 360° view on Google Maps. Now all people from all over the world will be able to have access to the Theatre and will be able to see the interior.

The process of getting Teatro Colón on Google Street View lasted 5 days. The images were made using using Trekker, Pfree Trolley and individual camera’s to gain access to better angles. (more…)

Mauricio Macro, the centre-right mayor of the city of Buenos Aires, was elected on Sunday 22 November to become Argentina’s 53th president.

The candidate from the Cambiemos party won with 51,40% of the votes against Victory Front’s Daniel Scioli. Macri will be sworn in on 10 December for a term of four years.

Born on 8 February 1959, Tandil, he is a member of one of Argentina’s richest families and son of the business magnate Franco Macri. He will be the first non-Peronist president since 2001. (more…)

The Recoleta Cemetery, one of the must-see tourist attractions in Buenos Aires, announced that it is going to charge foreigner visitors with an entrance fee to fund the preservation of the well known cemetery.

The cemetery is going to charge AR$ 100 to foreigners during the high season only (from September to March.)

The money that will be collected will be used to organise and modernise guided tours and visits. (more…)
