Famous Neighborhood Landmark Undergoes Restorations

A famous landmark in the Chacarita neighborhood of Buenos Aires is undergoing major restorations. The Comastri, a glass observatory, is an old relic of the colorful past of the neighborhood, built in 1875.

First, the Comastri operated as a private home, then as a cultural center, and most recently as a school for children with disabilities. In 2014, the site was declared a historical landmark.

Now, the Comastri will reopen once again as a cultural center in Buenos Aires.

Scientists in Argentina have discovered the first species of glowing frogs in the world in the Amazon Basin. The scientists came from a museum of natural science in Buenos Aires that was studying the pigment of this particular frog species.

In fact, they stumbled upon this amazing discovery purely by accident.

While these scientists were examining the pigment of the frog , they found that the frog appears fluorescent under a UV light. They went on to uncover that the frog used emissions from the lymph nodes and other glands on its body in order give the skin its greenish glow. (more…)

Animals Permitted on Subway Buenos Aires

Animals are now permitted to travel with their owners on the subway in Buenos Aires, according to a law passed last November.

However, there are some limitations to this new Argentine law.

First, pets must be kept in some sort of carrier. Pets also must ride with their owners in a designated carriage away from other passengers.

Moreover, pet owners are expected to carry proof of a rabies vaccination for their pets to travel legally on the subway. Animals are also barred from escalators or being fed during their subway ride. (more…)

Nintendo filmed their latest Super Bowl ad in Buenos Aires. The ad aired during Super Bowl LI on February 5th.

In the ad, Nintendo announced their new product, the Nintendo Switch. The Switch can be played on a TV or taken on the go in a portable console.

Additionally, the Switch allows up to 8 players at a time on the same console.

Tourism has been high in the city Buenos Aires over the last three months. According to the City Tourism Office of Buenos Aires, a reported 500,000 tourists visited the city during the months of November, December, and January.

The tourists have been mainly from North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. However, many of the tourists have also come from other Argentine provinces.

Furthermore, Buenos Aires was the top holiday destination in January, even over Bariloche, Mendoza, and other touristic cities. (more…)

Statues have also been constructed of other Argentinian athletes, such as Manu Ginobili (basketball), Gabriela Sabatini (tennis), Guillermo Vilas (tennis), Juan Manuel Fangio (Formula One), and Luciana Aymar (hockey).

Orca whale spotted in Buenos Aires

An orca whale was spotted in the region of southern Buenos Aires, close to Bahía Blanca. The so-called killer whale came close to shore, causing eye witnesses to flee from the water back to land.

It is difficult to predict what these animals would really do when encountering a swimmer, but the result can be fatal for humans. However, it is not the first time orca whales are spotted on the coast.
