Since Sube cards are the only way to pay for public transportation in Buenos Aires, people who had forgotten theirs or simply didn’t have one, could not pay for a trip and had to find a kiosko somewhere nearby, to first buy one.
But now there is good news! Because Subte stations are now selling Sube cards themselves. So no running away to hunt for a sube card near by!
Less good news is that somewhere in June or July prices will increase from AR $4.50 to AR $7.50. (more…)
The minister of Transport, Guillermo Dietrich, has confirmed that the rumors about the prices of the public transport in Buenos Airesare true. The fares for the busses and trains in Buenos Aires city will increase with 100%. The start date of the increase of these fares is the 8th of April 2016. The minimum price of a bus ride used to be 3ARS pesos, from the 8th of April on it will be 6ARS pesos. Train tickets will rise from 2ARS pesos to 4ARS pesos. These are the minimum fares, the price of the trip will rise with the distance.
The tunnels of Avenida 9 de Julio in Buenos Aires, which purposes are to speed up the movement of the buses and to avoid congestion in the city center, will be optimized to improve the connection between the city’s downtown and the Constitution Square, an area with a lot of public transport. The impressive viaducts, located at Avenida San Juan, will be inaugurated during the first days of June.
Most of the work is already completed. The only things left to be finished are the details of the paintings and the electrical systems so that, in the upcoming days, the eleven bus lines that are currently using the roads of Avenida 9 de Julio (more…)
Three young men who illegally decorated subways in Buenos Aires with their graffiti have participated in a cleaning operation. The goal of this action was to promote awareness to protect public transport and at the same time discourage vandalism.
The actions follow upon two previous cases. In June two adults and a juvenile were arrested. They were caught with aerosols violating access to a subway station. Also in May a young man who spray painted a car did volunteer work to repair the damage. (more…)
