As vegetarians, travelling anywhere in the world can be a tough ask, gastronomically. Many places, like France, for example, simply don’t understand it. Travelling South America is a little better than this, but in Buenos Aires, with the dominance of meat and seafood in the city’s best restaurants, it is best to know where to go before roaming the streets in hope of flavourful veggie food.
There are a few great places to check out, and many travellers are often very surprised at this. Here are four fantastic options for any vegetarians who find themselves stranded in Buenos Aires:
1) Casa Felix: an absolute must. This is a family home that opens it’s doors for several months of the year, inviting 15 dinner guests to a pescatarian tasting, infused with Latin American spices, aromas and ingredients. They do vegan and vegetarian tastings on request too. The food is inventive and delicious, and the whole experience is fantastic. The evenings begin at 9:30pm with casual drinks in the garden, before a 5-course dinner menu, with optional wine pairings. Give this place a go and you won’t be disappointed.
2) Marcelo: great Italian food with portions equivalent to the USA, and a great location on the port. It’s touristy, due to featuring in a number of guidebooks, but is still a great option for vegetarians.
3) Tandoor: the best Indian food in Buenos Aires. Fantastic vegetarian options as well as all the other small side dishes you’d expect at an Indian restaurant!
4) Kensho: heart of the Palermo district, this organic and vegan restaurant is a real experience. The food is worth a photo, such is its design, and the restaurant gives off an intimate vibe, with it seating only around 20 people. Book ahead!
